Professor of Interdisciplinary Design at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory and Director of Crucible. Over 15 years designing industrial systems and digital technologies, with expertise in human behaviour and decision-making at the interface.

Alan Blackwell is Professor of Interdisciplinary Design at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, a Fellow of Darwin College and Director of Crucible, a network for research in interdisciplinary design.

He holds qualifications in professional engineering, computing and experimental psychology. He works regularly with social scientists and policy researchers, as well as on the design of next generation digital technologies.

He has over 15 years’ experience designing industrial systems, electronic and software products. He has also taught and supervised students in Computing, Architecture, Psychology, Languages, Music and Engineering.

His work focuses on understanding how people interact with technology. He constructs and applies models of human behaviour, with an interest in improving design at the interface to support better decision-making.
