William Charnley

Board Member​

Corporate lawyer advising boards on governance, risk and regulatory change, with deep experience in oversight, fiduciary responsibility and institutional decision-making.

William is a corporate lawyer with a broad practice spanning initial public offerings and securities offerings, takeovers, private equity transactions, private mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.

He has advised boards and committees on regulatory and policy changes, as well as corporate governance and risk.

He was appointed an Honorary Master of the Bench of Gray’s Inn in 2022. He is also a member of the Court of the Drapers’ Company, a City livery company that manages charitable trusts and an endowment focused on essential human needs, including food, clothing, shelter, education and support.

He served as Master of the Company in 2016–17 and currently chairs the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

He is also a Governing Body Fellow of Hughes Hall, where he serves on the Audit Committee, Investments Committee and Development Board and chairs the Remuneration Committee.
